Among the various communities with which I collaborate or that I am a simple user, IPFire is the only one that does not have advertising material such as t-shirts or mugs just to give an example where users can buy to support the project
I can understand that starting to create that material also requires time and resources that are not available or you prefer to use them in other activities.
But I think that community users, including myself, could take charge of it.
Browsing the internet for other projects of mine I came across some platforms that create this material without having to advance anything, they will take care of the creation and shipping of the requested material, obviously the economic returns are lower, this could be an idea to start where the investment by the community is minimal, if it were to increase then all the evaluations can be made
In the past I remember that some users had offered or had sketched alternative logos to the penguin, perhaps it is worth taking them again or developing something new and very captivating
What do you think about it as a project
some years too late
the penguin logo was sent to the garbage dump
by a highly skilled development panel
nowadays the new farmers-market-fresh-organic-design
can easily be transferred to any imaginable object with
felt-tip pens in seconds! win-win
sorry but I donât understand what you mean
well. one reads this:
if there is time available one can read this:
tl;dr:
ipfire has dropped
the penguin logo long time ago
and now ipfire-penguin-logo-merch
What is merchandise
with the new logo?
The main company with IPFire in its products is Lightning Wire Labs. If you look at IPFire product page youâll find the âgood old penguinâ.
quite fresh plain text with thrilling colors
an IPFire product page
checking the ordinary website
it just shows a fresh&thrilling
â IPFire_ â
I was speaking of Lightning Wire Labs, which sells HW for IPFire installations and support for the system. And is the main development âmotorâ for IPFire.
indeed:
âIPFire - The Open Source Firewall - Lightning Wire Labsâ
apparently this page is being ignored
or it was simply not possible until now
to refresh it
hello and good day to all
but sorry it seems to me that the discussion is getting away from the main topic.
the proposed idea is to make advertising material to support the project, NOT to enrich someone
as a logo you can use the old penguin that we all know
or as said in my initial post you could use a new one or add a new logo
for example in the past these have appeared on the forum
Logo 1
Logo 2
Logo 3
I like the flaming penguin. I stick it back on my web pages. Even though I was thinking about revamping the look of my web interface, but there are other things to work on.
Another Logo I liked was the IPcop Logo this distro was a spin off from:
hello
regardless of whether to use the penguin or another logo, the issue is to make and sell t-shirts, mugs etc. with the IPFire logo to donate the profits to the project
but I see that the discussion has stopped on the penguin
probably nobody is interested
Its a good idea, its just getting it out there. I know that there is one company making hardware designed around this distro, but I donât see much talk about them here either. Other hardware people should mention that their router mini computer runs IPFire, but it only seems that they just mention the ones that are prone to attack like PFsense, Opensense and plain iptables.
I think it is part of the users to post positive meanings about the appliances of âthis companyâ.
The owner doesnât make advertisement, as it isnât allowed.
I have been trying to get a popular tech podcast to mention IPFire on the air. So far, no luck, but about once a month I will be sending a message to the host (he often reads listener comments on the air).
This is another method that other IPFire users can employ. It doesnât have to be a podcast. It can be a tech review site, a YT channel, a tech forum, even a tech magazine. Anything with a large tech savvy audience. I encourage all of you to try reaching out.
I donât know how distrowatch.org chooses distros to review, but if anyone has an âinâ to their reviewer, please reach out to them.
what I was thinking is to make something like this
this is the one from arduino
this is the one from Linux Mint
Do you mean Lightning Wire Labs?
yes.
However It seems that they donât have good vendor outreach it seems.
Because if I was building those, I would have them available at Amazon and Newegg Market Place so when someone searches âipfireâ on them they are greeted with those offerings.
Searching âipfireâ on Amazon is not beyond the topic of this thread.
If you search âipfireâ, you know it yet.
@tratru suggests ways to make IPFire more known.
Hello
To support a project like IPFire I think there are two possibilities
The first is to make a donation of âŹ10 per month for example, with this choice you provide economic funds to be able to pay for the servers for example, but with this solution that I consider absolutely necessary, it does not increase the user base, at least if it does so in a small part
The second possibility is to make the solution known to as many people as possible, starting from the simple things that lately few are willing to do, talking to people providing and explaining the potential of the solution, as a member of the IPFire community, we are committed in this sense, writing articles for various industry magazines, participating in trade fairs and specialist events see my post when we participated in Hackinbo (the most important event on computer security in Italy)
Certainly with this activity you do not bring the âŹ10 to pay the bills, but on the other hand you make the solution known to as many people as possible and if you convince them of that that you are convinced and that it is the reality, they will do the same
Precisely on the occasion of the Hackinbo event some people we met had asked us the possibility of purchasing material to support the project.
From there the idea was born to make t-shirts or sweatshirts as well as mugs to support the project and at the same time make the project known
Just as an example, having a coffee mug with the IPFire logo on it or going for a run in the park with the IPFire t-shirt makes the solution known
I donât want to say that it is the solution to the problem but it could be a small grain of sand that helps to make the project known, without considering that we could start by relying on a platform where they take care of everything (printing, e-commerce and delivery) so the only thing that remains the responsibility of the community is only the graphic design and providing IBAN for the profits
Hello once more,
We need to stop believing that open source projects can survive with the occasional donation of a tenner. If you actually want to make a difference here, we need BIG things.
This confirms exactly my point that I just made here:
This will take funding away from the project which is the last thing that we need in this day and age. If you actually wanted to collect some money for the project, a t-shirt would cost $50. Who is supposed to pay this? If people have $50 to spend on the project, then donate it. It will go a much longer way.
IPFire is not a project for the masses. We donât need TV advertising because you will reach a lot of people who administrate zero IT devices. You want targeted advertising to the right people, unless you have unlimited budget that you can blow on advertising to people who will never ever buy your product?
This is yet another wrong assumption. Did you even consider talking to a lawyer before setting up this shop? You have a random privacy policy according to the law of California. The name âIPFire Italiaâ suggests, and we all know this too, that you are in Italy. You fall under European and Italian Law. You are promoting this, you are the seller. Please make this very clear on that shop. People cannot assume that this is an official shop that has any affiliation with the project. You are responsible for everything around this and the company is simply a someone that you contracted to host the shop and make the goods. They are lying to you if they tell you otherwise.
I am so angry now.
