New blue installation

Hi guys

I need to add the blue network to the actual Red+Green+Orange setup.

I’ve just bought a netgear A6150 nano as suggested into the hardware USB VLAN list adaptor.
Plugged-in into one of the USB port (barebone device).

Command lsusb correctly recognized and display Netgear info.

But then when I run setup and choose red+green+orange+blu, I don’t see on blu asssignement the USB device to be choosen. And then the firewall freeze with the message “Restarting Non-local network”. Therefore I have to reboot.

What is wrong here?
Thanks
Vincenzo

Just realized that if I open the WUI, the new Blue appears (empty - not assigned).

Is this correct? Have i to switch to Native the NIC blue assignment without to run the setup command from command and assign it manually?

For your info… running IPFire 2.29 (x86_64) - Core-Update 183
thanks

Blue should have a NIC assignment. A MAC entry for the port where you have the Blue network connected.

if that is missing or you are not able to select a network port for the blue interface (NIC, virtual, USB, or other) then I would suspect the hardware involved is not detected properly.

To be honest I am not sure, that bridge in Green confuses me.

Hi

thankx for supporting me.
bridge for Green: because I have 2 LAN ports linked to the same NIC

Regarding the MAC to assign to blue… where to put the MAC? in the WUI or?
Vincenzo

looks to me like you need to select native in the Blue column
for your wlan.
finishup setup on DHCP page.
May want to reboot between steps.

Still missing the Blue interface

My first thought is that it is not supported in AP mode.

You had the zone display showing that blue was not connected to any interface.

You have now done that and connected the Blue Interface to the Blue Zone but the next step is to then assign the address to the blue interface.

Go to the console and run the setup command. Choose Address settings and then choose BLUE and then enter the IP address for the Blue Interface. Then after doing that Cancel back out of the menu until it runns the Restarting Networking.

After doing that it should then give you the Blue Interface in the DHCP page (Should work without a reboot but you can always do a reboot to be certain).

Hi Adolf

here is:

  1. Manually assigned Blue with Native

  2. in the console… I ran setup then address settings and entered the IP for Blue
    immagine

  3. then push Cancel button… and the the next screens Done to Exit, but it appears this message and I choose Ignore
    immagine

  4. No restarting networking appears… I decided to reboot from WUI. Ipfire frozen… Ping not available… I had to turnoff and turn on again the firewall.

  5. In the Home screen of WUI, I can see Wireless and its IP just set.
But into the DHCP Server, I see only Green setting. No Blue.

Is there any file for configuring it manually (like /etc/interfaces…)?

thanks
Vincenzo

Press “OK”
Usually the ip would end 0 or 1
This will be your blue gateway ip

After entering the ip address for the blue interface you have to press press OK. Then you press the Cancel button.

hi

set ip address to 192.168.135.1… and pressed OK button… but then Cancel disappeared and I pressed the button DONE.

Still the message No Blue interface assigned. Pushed again Ignored

network restarted automatically.
Home screen is now showing 192.168.135.1… but still no DHCP for Blue.

any other hints?
Thanks
Vincenzo

Blue should now show up in WUI.
Setup DHCP.

Don’t forget about BLUE access.

done everything… as written but w/o success.
No dhcp server with blue section to setup
vincenzo

I ran the command grep DRIVER /sys/class/net/*/device/uevent
and I found that the driver is rtw_8822bu instead of the rtl88x2bu as written in the ipfire raccomandation hardware.

Could it be the reason?
In case which other USB vlan should I buy to work with core-udate rel. 183?

Hi guys

one step more… I’ve changed the USB WIFI dongle (still netgear A6150 nano).
Situation:

  1. No card assignment… only Mac address.
  2. IP address assigned (172.10.10.0 - 255.255.255.0)
  3. Zone configuration manually configured (Native on blue card)
  4. Installed hostapd from pakfire and configured. (both access point and WLAN card are green-Running)
  5. Configured also the Blue access with both MAC and static IP of 2 devices
The devices are connected to the blue access point.

Still issues:
a. No dhcp server showup as Blue
b. No internet from Blue
c. In ther firewall rule section… not possibile to find and assign standard Blu net
d. no Blue network status

what have I to do?
Thanks
Vincenzo

a. the DHCP server must be enabled for BLUE
b.c.d. Have you rebooted IPFire after hostapd config?

 Why did you assign this address?

Hi berhard

I did not remember now…
OK I’m doing it… let you know.
Thanks
Vincenzo

Hi

I decided to give a complete different IP range from the usual 192.168…

Is it ok? or maybe have I use a different IP? what do you suggest?
thanks
