Raspberry Pi 4 Model B, does not see wifi card

Hello, I have a raspberry Pi 4 Model B, I want to set up wifi. It tells me that there is no wifi network card. Where could the problem be?

This post might cover your problem as well.

If I understand correctly, I should now select red and green and only then edit that file?

Yes select red and green but don’t start editing any files. That wasn’t mentioned in that other post.

I am presuming currently you are installing Core Update 189. Complete that installation but with just red and green. Then after installation has completed change from Stable to Testing in the Pakfire menu and run the update.

After update has completed do a reboot. Then go into the terminal and run the setup command again. Choose the Green + Red + Blue option and then it should see the wireless card. That was certainly what @hobthrust found in the other post.

You could also install the Core Update 190 Testing directly by downloading the iso from

https://nightly.ipfire.org/master/latest/aarch64/

With that route you should see the wireless card directly when doing the installation.

Just to clarify, I found that 188 worked so I’m still on there at the moment - I haven’t moved to 190 testing. I only got my new DSL circuit installed yesterday and I wanted to have an operational firewall first. Will try 190 on a spare Pi this weekend but I’m sure it’ll be OK. Also, mine is a 3B v1.2 not a 4, not sure how similar / different they are.

Okay, so you did a fresh install of CU188.

That would also work. The hiccup with the firmware was on CU189.

When doing setup, please post a screen shot of the Assigned Cards screen. It looks similar to this:

And the Extended Network Menu screen

select_NIC
