ZTE MSM MF667 - how to use for RED?

Hi,

Before I start trying to get the ZTE MSM MF667 USB mobile modem working as the RED interface in an IPFire box, does anyone have any experience making this work (or any other USB mobile modem)?

… I’m doing this as my ISP’s engineers (BT Openreach) broke our internet 4 days ago and still haven’t fixed it.

I have never used this type of connection.
But here is a list of known hardware.
Not sure what you have is supposed?
You can try.

I think you are looking for this:

There are three kinds of modems. Some simply pretend to be a ethernet adapter and you can just run DHCP on it. Others pretend to be a serial modem just like the 56k ones from back then. The third kind are the ones that support QMI. If you can, use the latter.

Thanks @ms - I spent an hour trying to get the ZTE modem to behave and got nothing as a result. I then bought a cheap (£20) 4G USB modem (Qualcom on the inside), and that presents an ethernet NIC /dev/usb0 which just worked as a red device.

Success (at least for my limited needs).
