Hi. I am currently running my webserver on a synology NAS which I know is not a secure thing to do as the NAS is inside my network.
Is there any way to run a virtual linux machine on IPFirw box with virtual DMZ
I dont want to buy another box to put a DMZ workstation for such small website instance. I see that we can install qemu in pakfire, can this host a webserver for DMZ
Hi Terry
I don’t want to run IPFire on proxmox as there is a lot of talk that a virtual instance of IPFire is not good and should be avoided at all costs.
Want to get the web site off synology as it is not in secure location.
I want to add onto IPFire, and not need to run another system in DMZ, so an trying to see if I install a linux instance in Qemu and put this into DMZ
I have proxmox running some other systems but it is not in DMZ nor will it be.
I run IPFire on Proxmox for a couple of years on a few locations now where people dislike to have several machines running that don’t have high availability option. I don’t have any problems yet. Of couse if the hv is compromised you have a huge problem and vmware just had a bug/scenario when client machines could break out of their environment.
A webserver is already running on IPFire for the WUI, so you may put your website to it.
Personally I dislike to mix things up. It’s always better to have things seperated from each other. It’s easier to maintain.
Whatever you want to add to IPFire, if it’s not in the AddOn List, you will need to build it for your own.
QEMU it a type 2 hv and it’s in the AddOn list. I wonder about that. Never used it. So what is the question again?
You can run a tiny linux in qemu and host a webserver on it. You put this server in your DMZ. That’s it. But this is all CLI, not WUI.
