Video not available

Hi.

We use a website that uses the vzaar.com video hosting domain. When my students connect through the IPfire firewall, the video is not available. I added all the possible whitelist domains that I could find, but still, I don’t have access.

One of the videos URL is GR10_WISK_Video 2 - Gelykvormigheid van driehoeke

Can anyone assist please?

For me the video is working. Don’t understand the language. To solve the lenghts the angles are missing.

Hello Johan, Welcome to the ipfire community.

It would be helpful to know what services are enabled. Like Intrusion Prevention System (IPS), or IP Blocklists, etc.

Look through the messages logs and firewall logs for items that are dropped/blocked.

FYI - I can access the video also without issue.

Hi Jon.

IPS is not enabled, no IP Blocklists added.

The video workes fine when you doesn’t use the firewall. My students must use the firewall. I also disabled the URL Filter and still we cannot access the video. It must be another setting in IPFire that is blocking these videos from vzaar.com.

Hi Terry.

Did you try it through the firewall?

Yes.

My students must use the firewall.

You need to explain more in detail: what do you mean by this? How do they have to use the firewall to access that resources?

You may use traceroute to see where it stuck.

I can also watch the video through my IPFire on both Green and Blue networks.
I use Proxy, URL Filter, IPS, IP Blocklist, and many filtering rules.
Perhaps there’s a problem with the DNS you’re using?

Try checking “Use ISP-assigned DNS servers.”

Thank you Phil. I changed the “use ISP-assigned DNS servers” to manual. Now it is working.

Do mean disable with ‘manual’?
This is setting recommended. With disabling ‘ISP.assigned DNS servers’ you can be sure that IPFire alone is ruling the DNS namespace ( if do not specify a filtering DNS server in the config  ).
