Trouble with static IP on red

Greetings!

Core 2.29 Update 187

Recently switched from DHCP on red, to Static. Got the numbers from my ISP. Used the WebGUI to enable SSH. Connected to the terminal and ran setup, switched red over to static and entered all the numbers correctly. Backed back out saving as I went. Said restarting network and hung there. On webGUI -System-Home screen, it shows a fresh connection to the old DHCP address…

No matter how many times I have tried it, I always still get a DHCP address.

I went into the /var/ipfire/ethernet/settings file and made sure it is also correct and it is.

Could this be an issue with my ISP? I know I had trouble just using their DHCP service. Always had to disable rapid commit to get it to work.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
Brian

Have you tried rebooting IPFire?

If you are trying to change from dhcp to static after the installation then you have to do some manual changes.

See

Yes I have rebooted multiple times.

This time I used the webgui to set it back to DHCP, rebooted, and it connected and worked.

So then I went in to the /var/ipfire/ethernet/settings file and made the changes in there. Rebooted ipfire again, and it connected with the correct IP address, but I have no data flow. I can NOT ping 1.1.1.1 from the ipfire command line, or from my desktop connected to the green network.

The IPFire webgui home page shows a little bit of data flowing, but I can not ping anywhere.

I CAN ping 1.1.1.1 when it connects using the DHCP address, but NOT with the static address.

Okay, so I was in contact with my ISP which is Kinetic by Windstream, with fiber to the home.

Thay said I need to use IPoE, and provided me with a login and password. I don’t see anyway to configure this in IPFire.

Apparently IPoE is actually DHCP, but IPFire’s DHCP settings don’t include a login/password that I can find.

Also, what are all the RED settings in the /var/ipfire/ethernet/settings file? I see:

RED_DHCP_FORCE_MTU
RED_ADDRESS
RED_DESCRIPTION
RED_DEV
RED_DHCP_HOSTNAME
RED_NETMASK
RED_SLAVES
RED_BROADCAST
RED_TYPE
RED_DRIVER
RED_MODE
RED_NETADDRESS
RED_MACADDR

So what do the TYPE and MODE settings do, and what are the options for those?

Thanks!

I think you need to run setup again.
Type “setup” from console
It sounds like you have a PPPoE connection.
