Temporary solution, go back to 176.

I imagine it will be because of the following (Maybe I’m wrong and it has nothing to do with it and it’s all a linguistic misunderstanding):

For the next time, I urge the development team that in these situations, put a note warning Users of unwanted effects.

Besides, I think that releasing updates in summer is certainly risky. If you don’t apply them (which is logical) when you return from the holidays, several updates accumulate and that is very scary. Otherwise, good job.

Greetings.

Shouldn’t be only INTEL CPU?

Indirect Branch Tracking has only been applied to the x86_64 kernel

So that can’t be the reason for the problem on aarch64.

I am reasonably certain that @arne_f would have tested the CU177 Testing release on his arm systems and he did not flag up any problems but maybe he will have some idea what is causing the problem.

Got the same problem this morning…
After update on my Raspberry Pi 4 (4GB) the reboot didn’t work and it hung completely…

Reinstalled everything, tried update again…
And IPFire hung again and didn’t want to start…

Then either @roberto or @csdragon should raise a bug report on it.

Hi Adolf. Thanks for reply.

I have already reported a bug as you mentioned:

https://bugzilla.ipfire.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13239

Greetings.

Hello again.

I have been looking at the “bootlog” of the CU166 and there is this line where the CU177 stops, but unlike the CU177, with the CU166 it continues the loading process. Therefore, it may not be that line that gives problems.

I am at your disposal to do/report the tests that are needed.

Thank you all very much for your effort.

This is very strange. I have not installed the final build, but master/d95a414c works at my OrangePi R1 Plus LTS. (Rockchip RK3328)

I have no Idea what can cause this yet. I see no relevant change in git after d95a141c.
Can you try a fresh install with core177 on an other sdcard, maybee the update script has a bug somewhere.

I have tested a fresh install with core177 on rpi3, rpi4 and OPi R1 Plus LTS yet and they boot without problems. For the others i need more time…

Also on NanoPi R4S i cannot reproduce it. (Normal devicetree)
I have tested a fresh install and also update from core164 (Overclocked devicetree).

Hi guys!!!.

Sorry for the delay.

I have tried a clean install with the CU177 and I have to say that it works perfectly.

Therefore, I consider the problem solved.

Thank you all!

Now i have found the problem in the update. If your IPFire was installed before core175 and cannot boot without uInit ramdisk the reboot will fain.

the u-boot-mkinit version was not shipped with core175 so on older installations it links against the old openssl version and cannot create the uInit image.

I installed Version 174 back then…
Now made a backup of my config, then installed 177 directly to the SD and recovered the backup…

Now I also have Version 177.
