Non-stop wpad.dat error messages in web server log

DHCP is not configured to give out a web proxy but I get non-stop wpad.dat error messages in web server log coming from the internal ipfire ip address.

How can I stop this behavior? - - [24/Jan/2020:15:32:09 -0600] "GET /wpad.dat HTTP/1.1" 404 1094 - - [24/Jan/2020:15:32:51 -0600] "GET /wpad.dat HTTP/1.1" 404 1093

my ipfire is sending wpad requests every 45-55 seconds. How do I stop it?

Looks like a client in your network ask for “/wpad.dat” without any hostname. The proxy gives the correct answer 404 (File not Found).

At my informations IPFire never download wpad.dat
Have you enabled the proxy? If yes enable the proxy log to find zhe correct client.

this is from a web server, not the ipfire web server

Than you have a portforwarding. Enable the log for this to find the client that ask for this.
