No-Ip setup failing

I am recently having trouble setting No-Ip DDNS

This used to work but recently I am unable to setup, the settings are correct when use another method but on IpFire the setup fails to turn green

What am I missing. I tried with WWW.si-tech.com.hk and si-tech.com.hk which are both registered with No-Ip

I also have a No-IP DDNS url and that is working fine.

One thing that came to mind. Do you have the free DDNS account or the Enhanced DDNS account.

I have the free one which means I get an email every 30 days requiring me to confirm the account and the involved url(s). (In fact I received it today just as I was writing this post.

If the confirmation is not done then No-IP will delete the hostname/domain combination and it will become available again for other No-IP users.

If you have the Enhanced DDNS account or you have confirmed your free account then you will need to look in the logs to see what error message has been shown for the update attempts.

Go to Logs - System Logs - In the drop down box labelled Section: select Dynamic DNS and see what you find.

If a successful attempt occurred you will see something like

01/18:34:48 ddns[2493]: Dynamic DNS update for my-test-name.ddns.net (NoIP) successful

A failure will show something like

15/11:25:04 ddns[19191]: DDNSResolveError: Could not resolve DNS entry
15/11:25:04 ddns[19191]: Dynamic DNS update for my-test-name.ddns.net (NoIP) failed:

with your error message being appropriate for the problem you are experiencing..

The above happened for me because I was doing some testing evaluation on a DNS problem being experienced by another forum user but it helps to indicate the format of the log message to be found.

Hi Adolf. Thanks for the quick response.

I have the fully paid version as I have my own local domain for my small company.

Looking at the logs it says “Dynamic DNS update for si-tech.com.hk (NoIP) successful” However it remains red in the Current hosts. plus I am unable to access the website hosted on my local machine. the website is working fine and accessible locally

That means that there is no issue with an IP block occurring anywhere and blocking the update.

Then I would go and check the domain settings in your No-IP account and make sure that it has the correct IP in it and ensure that it matches what you see on your IPFire Home page.

Hi Adolf

Sorry could not answer before we had a power outage (again)

OK there must be another problem with the firewall, The IP address matches on No-Ip and my local outside IP (Internet) OK, but connecting to the website is still not available.

I will try to sort thorough the settings and see why I can connect inside my lan to the local ip address but not from outside the lan, with the domain name or the ip address

Will get to it tomorrow

It would be worth trying to access the website from the red side of your system and then look in the firewall logs to see if you see the two chains of DNAT followed by FORWARDFW for the port forward rule you have created.

That will confirm that your traffic is being correctly or not forwarded from your red interface to the machine running your website.

Hi Adolf

Sorry for late reply.

I was able to solve the issue by formatting the system and re-install. Was going around in circles, digging around in the error logs and trying several things to fix the errors but things did not seem to get any closer to resolve it, so decided to clean the system and re-install

Now is working fine, plus the DDNS display shows correctly as green.

Thanks for your assistance
