Newer installation 1.56 and onwards cant install on APU1

I have an issue here. all newer ISO’s here doesnt work on an APU1 install. I used 1.53 till today fine. but now it cant pull the installation image ( error 404 ) . The newer iso’s from 1.56 till new cant find the network devices on install so it cannot download the installation image. how can i settle this now ?

Hi,

what do you mean by “1.53” and “1.56”? Are you referring to Core Update 153 and Core Update 156?

The newer iso’s from 1.56 till new cant find the network devices on install so it cannot download the installation image.

Are there any log messages? If so, please post them here.

Thanks, and best regards,
Peter Müller

Here you have the output log where you can see there are not detected network devices. with core update 153 i do have network cards qwith this core update not.

You may want to try downloading the ISO image and then do the install from a USB Thumb drive.

https://www.ipfire.org/download

also see this:
https://wiki.ipfire.org/installation/step2

I saw this:

PC Engines APU BIOS build date: Sep 8 2014
Total memory 2048 MB
AMD G-T40E Processor
CPU MHz=1000
USB MSC blksize=512 sectors=7595520
Press F10 key now for boot menu:

You may need to update the APU firmware also.

I am already installing from an ISO 'ed USB thumb drive.

I will try to update the firmware. I dont expect much from that but at least worth trying…

Did you follow this wiki article

Yes i did follow the wiki artikle. I have installed many instances of this. Only the APU1 is not supported anymore by installer from 156 and higher… IF i use the 153 the network interfaces are found. but the installation image is not online anymore ( 404 )

And no luck again after firmware flash :

This shows your installation media isn’t build correctly.
A correct USB drive doesn’t load from internet, but from the installed ISO.

Follow this install:

and not the boot.ipfire.org install.

EDIT: with the Terminal (or Console) info above It is very difficult to tell what path you took and what choices were picked. But it looks like you had chosen a boot.ipfire.org or PXE install path. And that is not the right choice for the above issue.

I missed this line before. Sorry!!

Can you explain in more detail?

I got it working by writing the ISO file with rufus as DD… Then it can install without downloading. But still i digged a bit deeper in the installer. why it didnt find the network interfaces. And i manage to fix it for me. But i dont think it will be wise to put these fixes in upstream ISO file as i am the only one who has this issue. ( as i looked the forum before )

This one isnt standard in the installer. I can do it like that do by modifying the ones… I manage to get it working … and i also could get it working by patching the latest iso so it detects the network cards.

There are missing phy drivers for the realtek and some other nic’s in the installer ramdisk.
Why this should not fixed in the upstram ISO?

I dont know why this is not fixed in upstream ISO, Maybe there was not enough space or some other reason for the deletion of this device… A dev should shine his view on this to get a clear view on this case.

I’m the dev and has asked you why you think it is not wise to fix it?

The reason for the bug is an upstream change between kernel 4.14 and 5.10 and in our applieances are intel nic that works without such modules so we have not noticed the problem.
I have included the files for core162 but network boot will not work until core162 is final released.

I am happy i could be a ringing bell in this case. :relaxed: I was assume the drivers were left out for some space related thing or whatever. But thats perfectly fine if you can fix it so i can go on again with my rolling out of the apu boards. So my apology of mentioning the bug wont be fixed…

The apu 2 boards are hard to come by at the moment due to chip shortages and i have some stock of apu 1 boards so that why i switch back to them
