Hi all, loving the product but have had significant issues since starting with it.
I luckily encountered the permissions issue - and had to chmod 755 /usr etc etc to get a Webui
I did this yesterday and had a happily working webui, and then this morning, it was gone. Tried the chmod commands again and a reboot and it came back.
It has been happy all day then dropped out completely - I had to go through the same procedure to get the webui back again.

Welcome to the IPFire community.
Had the permissions changed again before you ran the chmod commands?
If it happens again then check the permissions of those directories to see if they have changed or not.
Also please provide the output of the WUI server logs which are available at
/var/log/httpd/error_log

Hi @craiggc
You have several of the first message about user root not found. This message is what you will get if you try to enter root as the user in the authentication screen. The only user that can be entered for the WUI is admin.
The root user and its password is only used for logging in to the console.
Then there are a couple of messages about user admin: authentication failure. This message is usually when the admin user has been entered but then the password that was set for admin was incorrectly entered.
When you say that the webui was gone do you mean that you got a screen showing the message Internal server error or was there a different message.

this morning i have arrived at work and the proxy has gone again
http access gives the following :
Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand.
Reason: You’re speaking plain HTTP to an SSL-enabled server port.
Instead use the HTTPS scheme to access this URL, please.
Https gives a timeout error. - checking permissions seem to be OK (but im not an expert yet)
Also SSH has now stopped working…
