Link aggregation (bonding) on WAN side

Hello all,

I found some other posts on this, but I thought I would create a new one since port aggregation is becoming more common on network devices today.

I have a Netgear cable modem DOCSIS 3.1 that offers a two port aggregation option to achieve 2Gbps download speed. My ISP is providing a 1.2 Gbps download speed option that I have already selected.

The end goal is to create a configuration where I can download at 1.2 Gbps.

The cable modem side is easy as I already setup link aggregation so I have ethernet cables connected to ports 1 and 2 on the cable modem.

The part I am hoping someone could provide the steps to configure is on the ipfire side.

(focusing on the red interface) I currently have one ethernet cable going from my 10Gpbs NIC to one port on my cable modem. However, I have another 1 Gbps NIC in the machine that is unused…

As I understand it, “bonding mode 5” is the Linux version of port aggregation.

Can someone please provide a step by step to setup bonding (DHCP, and boot persistent, of course) so I can connect use the unused NIC in my ipfire box as part of a two port aggregate with the 10 Gbps NIC already in use on the Red interface?

Thank you!
