Kernel of IPFire

Hello @bonnietwin,

continuing this topic “Use-after-free” kernel error on core181 I have two questions concerning the kernel of IPFire.

  1. I have updated to CU182 and it’s still 6.1.61 - why will CU183 bring us 6.6.8 and no longer 6.1.xx ?

  2. Do we have a git repository for IPFire on Kernel.org or where do we can find its sources?

I obviously made a mistake. I don’t know now where I identified CU182 as going to be 6.1.62
I have looked through the testing announcement and the git repo and there is no mention of 6.1.62

Because the kernel developers have moved on from the 6.1 Long Term Release kernel series to the 6.6 Long Term Release kernel series.

As Core Update 183 has been in unstable mode for a while the 6.6 series has already had several version updates.
6.6.2 was merged into the IPFire git repo on 5/12/2023 and versions 6.6.3, 6.6.4, 6.6.5, 6.6.6, 6.6.8, 6.6.9, 6.6.10 and 6.6.11 have been merged into the git repo from that date until yesterday.

I am not sure that I understand what you mean with this question.
IPFire does not have a git repo on the kernel git repo.

IPFire has its own git repo and the kernel source is used as part of that git repo.

https://git.ipfire.org/?p=ipfire-2.x.git;a=summary

The kernel build definition is in the following LFS file
https://git.ipfire.org/?p=ipfire-2.x.git;a=blob;f=lfs/linux;h=193d5260f0948a798fae3d0bd132d4847c9fff8c;hb=refs/heads/next

If I have misunderstood what you were looking for please let me know.

For sure. But why do they? Both kernel series have the same endtime of support.

No, thanks. That is exactly what I was looking for.

You would have to ask the kernel developers.

The developers of the IPFire project probably want to support more newer hardware. Again thanks for the information about the git repository.
