Hello everyone. Please help me with the question. Is it possible to set the IP address of the green network to the same as on the router with the Internet, which is connected to the red Ipfire network? My network looks like this: Internet router, ipfire, computers and printers.
If it is possible, it won’t work. Red and Green must be on different subnets. Why do you want them the same?
If you want to keep the same LAN subnet in IPF, consider changing the subnet in the router, unless the ISP has blocked it.
I have an IP router 192.168.60.2 and all the equipment is configured for it, if I install an Ipfire firewire with IP 192.168.1.1, I will have to reconfigure a lot of equipment. Maybe there’s a way around this, please tell me.
Is there any reason to leave your current router in place? If you have to because it is being used as a modem, does it have a bridge/modem only mode, so it passes its external IP through to IPF?
Alternatively, reconfigure your IP router to a different LAN IP/subnet, e.g 192.168.30.2/24 and then configure IPF with its LAN on 192.168.60.2/24 and a WAN on 192.168.30.x. You may need to configure IPF offline. Having reconfigured both, you should then be able to unplug all your LAN from the IP router and plug it into IPF and plug the IPF WAN into your IP router.
Thanks a lot for the advice. The router must be left off, the bridge mode is on it.
Please tell me, how can bridge mode help in my case?
Because then IPF gets your current WAN IP directly. The IP router has no LAN subnet and IPF is free to use your IP router LAN subnet for itself on its LAN.
It also avoids double-nat.
Sorry for the stupidity. but can you tell me how to set it up correctly in bridge mode in my case? Thank you so much in advance for your advice.
The what is the internet router’s make and model #?
Because that has to either be removed or bridged out depending on if it is a fibre or CATV Doscis router or not.
Tp link 840n router.
I’m assuming you have a red & green network.
Disconnect the WAN cable from the router, and plug it into the port red network is assigned to, then go into the TPLink router and set it in AP (access point) mode.
Then plug the wan port of the router into the green port of the ipfire machine.
The router is on geen, and now can use the lan ports on the router on the green network.
