Intermittent connectivity issues

Hi all,

I’m experiencing a strange behavior with one application on an iPad I was not able to find a root cause for.

I’m running IPfire for years without issues and using a fiber connection being provided by a local carrier. Lately and without changing my setup except installing IPfire updates my wife started complaining about a game she is playing on the iPad (up-to-date). It’s Klondike Adventures financed by advertisements.

Out of a sudden this game didn’t start for an irregular time but then became playable again. This behavior happens every day at different points in time and the period where you can play differs from 30min up to several hours. Then it stops again for a certain period, becomes playable again and so on and so on.

Now the interesting part: I disabled everything IDS, IP block lists, country block lists and the firewall option “Drop packets from and to hostile networks”. None of this changed anything, the behavior of the game stays that weird.
BUT, when I connect the iPad via a hotspot provided by a cellphone the game is ALWAYS working as in the past, without any issues. The cellphone is connected via a Telekom Germany subscription. Unfortunately all household members have a contract from the same carrier, so I cannot test another.

Has anyone else experience something similar or has an idea what can cause this?

Besides this game anything else we are doing on the Internet is working as to be expected and with IDS and all block lists active.

Kind regards, Oliver

Did you reload the firewall after making these changes? You have to manually go to Firewall->Firewall Rules and a Restart button will appear to the right of the New Rule button.

You may have done this, but I’ve forgotten to do this in the past, so I thought it was worth having you double-check.

Of course, I did. Reloading the firewall as well as rebooting it to apply changes to the firewall option.
