Install older Backups

Hello,

I completely reinstall IPFire on a mSATA SSD. I use an older image file and the associated ipf files.
For example:
ipfire-2.29-core195-x86_64.img and *.ipf and hostapd.ipf, all from July 2025.
My question:
Get me under “Pakfire Configuration / Available Add-ons”
the add-on hostapd shown on July 2025?
If this is not the case, how do I get an older add-on?

The addon backups only have the configuration and associated file backed up. The addon itself is not backed up. This is mentioned on the WUI Bacup page and also in the documentation.

https://www.ipfire.org/docs/configuration/system/backup

Backing up your addons won’t save the actual addons themselves. They will, however, back up their configuration files. After restoring, it is necessary to manually install the addons and then restore the configurations.

Once an addon is updated then only that updated version is available.

If you really need to use an older version of an addson then your only option is to download the .ipfire file for the older version manually from a mirror location.

https://mirror1.ipfire.org/pakfire2/2.29-x86_64/paks/

This location has the current version and the previous one for hostapd.

Then you would need to manually install that addon from the command line as per these instructions related to building and installing your own addon.
Before manually installing that version you would need to make sure to uninstall any existing version from the WUI pakfire menu.

Thanks for the very detailed information. I only need the previous version of the current hostapd file.
I get this previous version with console commands in >Pakfire / Avalaible Add-ons < as described from "Testing the install, uninstall, … " ?

No. Those commands will only install the current version.

You have to got to the mirror location and manually download the required file, simplest being with your browser.

Then you have to transfer that file to your IPFire system using scp if you have ssh enable on your IPFire. Place the file in the /tmp/ directory and then follow the instructions in the last link I provided - addon-howto
