Initial setting

Good morning,
I’m new to ipfire and have no experience with networks and IPs.
I have a router with IP address 192.168.1.1 and I would like to know what <<ip addresses to enter for Green, Red and Blue.
Thanks for the help
Alberto

Hello,

A minimum of network knowledge is preferable to use IPFire

Before creating a complex Green and Blue networks, start using IPFire in test with one PC behind the Green

To answer your question concretely:
For the Red, if you are behind your router, use DHCP
For the Green network, use an IP 192.168.XX.1 (with XX different from 1 which is used by the Red), for example 192.168.10.1

After reading the documentation and learning how to use IPFire, you will know which address to use for the Blue.

Good learning

Thank you very much Phil. I tried by inserting:
Green 192.168.1.10 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Red with DHCP Start at 192.168.1.2
End to 192.168.1.100
Primary DSN 192.168.1.1
Secondary DNS 8.8.8.8
After installing and setting the Sever Dhch Error message appears. I have never been able to insert login and passwords from the console.
Excuse me if I still disturb you but I am 69 years old and I am no longer reactive as young.
Thank you

putting 192.168.1.10 for green is a mistake, Red already uses this subnet

You didn’t follow my advice
I gave you as an example 192.168.10.1
for DHCP 192.168.10.2 to 192.168.10.100
DNS 192.168.10.1

DNS 8.8.8.8 is not set here

There is no age limit to learn.
I am also 66 years old and I learn every day :grinning:

I believe this is the Guide you consulted

Try the official guide instead

by replacing the addresses 192.168.1.xxx with 192.168.10.xxx for Green subnet

(I just edited the Wiki page to that effect because Red often uses 192.168.1.0)

Dear Phlil,
I’m bothering you for the last time, I tried your settings but even entering 192.168.10.1 doesn’t work.
I read the documentation and tried with these settings:
Green: 192.168.1.1
Red: DHCP and Rapid Commit
Start add. 192.168.1.100
end add. 192.168.1.200
Primary DSN: 192.168.1.1
With this data I can connect to the web interface, where, however, parkfire signals me an error (500 can’t connect to parkfire.ipfire.org:443 name or service non know), which I don’t know how to eliminate. I attach the parkfire screenshot.
Thanks again.
Alberto

If your ISP router uses 192.168.1.0/24 with DHCP, your green network can be any network 192.168.x.0/24 with x=0 or x > 1.

What do you mean by “192.168.10.1 doesn’t work”
1 - IPFire won’t start?
2 - You don’t have access to “https://192.168.10.1:444”?

Is this router your Internet access on the Red? Or an Access Point that you plug into the Green?

Describe your installation.

I also replaced the Installation Video, The old installation video described the same subnet 192.168.10.10 for the Red network and 192.168.10.11 for the Green, it can’t work that way

Thank you for correcting this.
Little annotation: red network == green network isn’t conforming to the wiki.

??
I had corrected the Wiki yesterday, and made the video corresponding to the corrected addresses.

this is the IP range you RED zone will get it’s IP to access the internet.
No other zone can use this IP range.
So Green can be 192.168.20.1
Blue can be 192.168.33.1
DMZ can be 192.168.77.1
you need to have a different number were the “x” is in this example
192.168.x.1
you need to run “setup” at the console.

Just for info: It is not parkfire.ipfire.org:443 it is pakfire.ipfire.org:443.

Thanks for the valuable advice. I tried to set the green 192.168.10.1 and also 192.168.20.1 from setup but it doesn’t work and I can’t access the web interface.
By setting 192.168.1.1 instead I can access the web interface but the network doesn’t work or works very badly. Furthermore, if I go to pakfire I get the error “500 I can’t connect to pakfire.ipfire.org:443 (Name or service not know)”.
Thank you all
Alberto

It’s my internet access router on red using the RTL 8153 Lan/Usb adapter
Alberto

thanks, it’s a typo
Alberto

Just to be sure.
How are your connections?
ISP router <—> IPFire RED NIC
IPFire GREEN NIC <—> local network ( any routers or switches included? )

My access router is connected to red using the RTL 8153 Lan/Usb adapter.
With the green light on 192.168.10.1 it doesn’t work and I can’t enter the web interface, but from the console I can enter the setup.
Alberto

I tried with 192.168.20.0 but it doesn’t work and I can’t get into the web interface.
