Am I correctly assuming that the IDS rule updater Add-on linked here is out of date?!
The question that arises is: How do I remove the add-on completely?

yes, this add-on seems to be obsolete, as the IPS GUI now provides the functionality of
downloading rulesets automatically without overriding manual choices.
Please refer to this post for further information on how
to remove this add-on. (Besides, this is why we recommend to install add-ons via Pakfire only,
since they come with a defined uninstallation routine. 
)
