I586 support and core 162

Just got the email about 2.27 - Core Update 162.

The email mentions it will be the last release supporting i586.

I did some looking here and web searching/reading. I now have no more idea if my box currently running ipfire is i586 than I did before trying to figure it out.

Ipfire tells me what is shown below. Is x86_64 good for the future?

(yes, it is embarrassing to admit that I’ve been in the computer industry for a long time and probably should know the answer off the top of my head…)

## System versions

|IPFire version|`IPFire 2.27 (x86_64) - core161`|
| --- | --- |
|Pakfire version|`2.27-x86_64`|
|Kernel version|`Linux ipfire.parkerlocal 5.10.76-ipfire

Hi @drmacro.

You have the 64 Bit version and you will not have architectural problems in the future. At least until 128 Bits reign, hehehe. :smiling_imp:

If you had the one that is no longer updated, you would see “IPFire 2.27 (i586) - Core Update 161”.

Regards.

Thank you very much for the response.

I was really hoping not to have to go looking for new hardware… :slightly_smiling_face:
