How Do You Reconfigure Networking?

Is there a way to reassign red and green to different NICs, and reassign IP addresses, without reinstalling ipfire from scratch? I read the documentation. checked the FAQ, and dug around in the web GUI, but I don’t see an answer.

@geekprophet Yes, there is, you will need to run the initial setup from the command line again, after connecting via serial console, then you can run the complete setup from scratch. Or connect keyboard and monitor directly to the IPFire box, if you have access to it, then you can rerun the setup again from the command line that way. Documentation: www.ipfire.org - Step 5: Network Setup

To be really successful it is necessary to use the system’s console ( serial / keyboard monitor ).
Running setup from a SSH console may delete this access connection.

I have a keyboard and monitor on the server. I just need to know how to bring up the network configuration screen from a command prompt without starting the whole installation from scratch. Every firewall or router has a way to reconfigure networking without starting over with a fresh OS install.

As stated in the wiki article cited, it is possible to run setup from a command shell in a running system…
Not all, but the necessary, modifications are possible.

@geekprophet You, misunderstand, you will not be reinstalling, you simply log in on the existing installation via the command line and re-run the setup on the existing installation.

Finding that note in the wiki article was like playing a game of “Where’s Waldo?” but I did eventually see it. Thanks much…

Thank you.

I know, the note is ‘very little’ but can be found when reading the docs for the first installation.

The recommendation is just logical. You can’t reconfigure your communication channel.
BTW: sometimes it is recommend to use the interface with least requirements ( the system console ) for system modifications.
