Hello, I’m considering setting up a home server with IPFire, which will include some disks arranged in RAID to share their contents on my local network. My question is about the concerning issue of “bit rot,” and I am thinking about using dm-integrity on top of a RAID LVM. I searched in Pakfire for something like cryptsetup to use integritysetup, but it doesn’t seem to be available. Does IPFire support the implementation of dm-integrity on these disks? Thanks to everyone.
I understand that IPFire is a distribution focused on network protection, but seeing packages like Samba and other utilities for managing additional disks in Pakfire, I was considering implementing a robust data sharing solution. Does anyone know if it is possible to implement dm-integrity on the additional disks? Thank you very much to everyone.
You would need to build the dm-integrity package and anty additional dependencies as a local addon for yourself.
Details for how to build and install your own addon are available in the IPFire wiki documentation.
OT: if you’re going to virtualize IPFire, don’t use samba with it. The performance is, however, very bad/slow. I got only about 25MB/sec for large files. We don’t need to talk about samba and small files…
I run a debian container now and get full spped of the LAN.
