Docs for old appliance...>

Hi everyone,
I bought an physical IP Fire appliance about 6 or 7 years ago which Id like to re-intall from scratch (can’t remember the Admin password)… but I haven’t used the appliance for a while (was packed away), I can’t remember which is the port to connect to the router and which is the “out” port to connect to my ethernet switch.
I can’t find any documentation for that appliance (it doesn’t have a model number on it, just the serial number - it’s the old appliance with the two wireless antennas sticking out of the back of the appliance).
Anyone knows where I can find Docs for old appliance that are no longer in sale on the lightning wire labs store?
Cheers,
M.

Is this the machine you are talking about?

If yes then that is the Prime.

I was just given one a few days ago to use for my testing work so I can do it on a physical system and not just a virtual one.

I don’t have any documentation for it but I don’t think it would help with regard to which port is which in terms of red or green.

It would depend on which mac address you assigned to red and green.

In the setup screen when it first shows all the available mac addresses I assigned the top one in the list to green, then I assigned the top one in the remaining list to red and then the last mac address was assigned to blue as it is for the wireless interface.

Unfortunately the nic’s installed do not support the identification mode of flashing the lights on the nic.

I am hoping later today or tomorrow to be able to have enough time to run the Prime and find out which port is which.

I have just put the red cable into the one on the right hand end, looking from the rear.
I will test out booting it and see if red gets a dhcp address supplied. If yes then that port is red. If no then most likely is that the port is green, so I will just swap the cables over and reboot again.

It might be quicker for you if you just plug your red cable into one of the ports and after installing it will boot and you will see if you get an IP address on red. If you get a fail message for the dhcpcd stage then just move the red cable to the other port and reboot again.

Once you know which port is which just put a label with an R and a G above the respective ports for future reference.

If it is the Prime then one thing to bear in mind is that it is a bit sensitive to the type of USB stick/drive being used for the installation source in terms of how quickly the usb stick responds and it might not be found by the bios.

With some you just have to press Ctrl-Alt-Del and reboot it a few times and it will be recognised.

Two of my sticks just refused to be seen but then my third was immediately recognised, so I have noted that one for any installs on the Prime.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I decided I would make the time now.

So of course with a guess of one of two ports I chose the wrong one first but I did get it connecting and getting an IP address on its red interface.

So when you install, if you assign the green interface to a mac address first, then the top mac address is for the right hand port when looking at the rear, so red to left hand port and green to right hand port.

Then note down the mac addresses you used for red, green and blue.

Hope this helps.

Hi Adolf,
Thanks for this, my appliance is slightly newer I think as I have more ports at the Ron and back (and the serial number starts with 2017 if that’s anything to do with the year it was released!).
Anyways… got it all setup now so thank you.
Having other issues where the Green and.or Red interfaces can’t get to the internet so I can’t list any packfiles or get out to the internet from my green network but that’s a different issue all together.

Thanks again,
M.
