when it comes to the ipfire locations features i would like to know if addons use those too. tor for example, maybe also the wireless access point are using country code parameters and i wondered if they use their own data or if they get it from ipfire.
Hi,
Tor in particular comes with its own database for geolocating IP addresses. That database is based on IPFire Location, but is updated on Tor’s own schedule. However, the country codes in the list of connected Tor relays are derived directly from IPFire Location.
The hostapd add-on does not make use of IPFire Location, because there, country code information is used for WiFi frequency choice and related decision, which is not information the IPFire Location database stores.
