Just did the upgrade … and it worked fine. I have another ax88xxx part somewhere. I’ll hunt it down and try again later today 
I have tried two differently branded variants of ax88179, TP-Link and Plugable. Both seem to work fine now.

Also just updated to Core-Update 186 Development Build: master/f3d6e2a0
Both my DeLock branded ax88179 USB Eth adapters (red0 and orange0) now connect.
