Configuring PPPOE from IP fire (Modem in bridge mode)

I was following this hardening guide here and had some questions regarding configuration of PPPOE

My modem is already in bridge mode so as far as I can tell it basically just translates the signals to something my router can understand, and that’s it. It doesn’t have a presence on my LAN, can’t hit it via basic NMAP scan. I’m not sure if the ISP can take it out of bridge mode, but as for right now I believe I have I already done what the step above suggests. As in any firmware exploits shouldn’t affect me at this point. Am I correct in this assumption?

Also the article suggests that this for cable or DSL providers, but I’ve read that PPPOE is largely for DSL, and I don’t think my ISP provides it for cable connections.

The bridge mode in this article is for some modem/router combo devices that do a PPPoE dialup internally. For such setups it is better to switch the device in bridge mode (modem only - router disabled) for this now IPFire need the dialup config from the ISP. (that was before setting to bridge mode in the router)
