Can I suggest you retry one step at a time eg: first… Internet >> ONT >> IPF and once that is confirmed as working then… Internet >> ONT >> IPF >> Calix etc… this will simplify the troubleshooting,
I also suggest a fresh install of IPF following the steps in the Wiki: wiki.ipfire.org - Installation (it is well documented.).
Here is a link to the drawio file I shared with you earlier in case you wish to modify the diagram: Your Network Diagram
Yes, I have been troubleshooting it one step at a time. Just to update you, everything works great up to the Calix Blast. I will have my IP’s set where I am on the internet then snap Calix changes everything and I loose connection. Determine the correct IP’s once again then snap. It does it again. I decided it was because I haven’t set bridge mode in the Calix yet. I went to try and this Calix is the most complicated think I’ve ever seen. I even went in search of a guide or manual that would help. So far all that are supposed to be for that Make/Model are different both in looks and in software. I had no idea this thing would be this kind of problem. Since I have tracked it to the Calix and since I can find no instructions (software says you need an IP but doesn’t tell if it is for the destination or the source) I think I will just stop for now. I do appreciate all you have contributed for me and wish to say thanks again. IPFire has a great team and even the people in the “Community” are for the most part very nice and helpful people too. I wish you all the best.
I get the feeling that those Calix products are meant to be remotely managed.
“welcome to your network from the web” sort of thing.
Third party remote access.
If your into that.
Probably doesn’t support bridging
I would not use it.
I agree. I decided to remove the calix from the system. I am now connected to my IP through IPFire just as I have been trying to do. An easy fix if you don’t over work the brain looking for a hard fix. Thanks guys. It all works now. You all have been a great help and I really can’t thank you enough.
However, I have one new issue. My speed has been reduced from 450 to 84. This would seem to be IPFire related. My upload is 95. My up and down speeds are supposed to be the same or close. Any ideas? Would it be my IP provider causing this? Would it be a setting in IPFire? Thank you again for any response.
My IP provider seems to have made a few changes for me so I could get things working right. I don’t know what they were and it didn’t fix the issues but it did seem to help. From there I had to work with my networking. Both on IPFire and my lan. In IPFire I had to change addresses mostly. But I was changing them in both at the same time. (In a hurry) I also determined I made headway faster when I was doing all this in linux. The “fix” was not one thing. It was a series of things. When my speed jumped way up in linux I knew I was working in the right direction. When I had it all the way I switched over to Win11. For me that was much harder and it was entirely the computer setup.
I know I tagged this topic as solved but I am still having issues setting up my wireless. Only about half work and those only setup as dhcp. The other half still give the same output I received when I first began which was the inability to ping the gateway. I’ve tried static and dhcp on them. I KNOW it is my setup for them that is the issue. Anyway, at least now I have full speed in linux and Win11 when using the cat5 connections. And the half of the wireless that do work are at full speed too.
I really wish I could point to one thing and describe in detail but it didn’t work that way for me. And by the time I detailed every event and the following troubleshooting involved I would have written a book. I am sorry. But if anyone wants to pick my one celled brain I would be happy to comply. But I promise nothing in results.
Wireless Speeds (Still working on it but getting closer)
