Adding WiFi Card

Hi, am looking forward to remove my current wireless router acting as an AP, and instead configure my mini PC running IPFire with a compatible mini PCIe card, my motherboard supports both 1*mPCIe as well as 1*M.2 2230 CNVi protocol, I see several affordable cards that i think could be compatible with IPfire, such as the Intel Dual Band Wireless‑AC 7260 (7260HMW) (mPCIe), uses the standard Linux iwlwifi driver, which IPFire supports; or the Intel Wireless‑AC 9560 (m.2 2230 Key E), that one I am not sure is supported on IPFire.
any insights of what to buy would be greatly appreciated!

Hello Jose,

if you want the card to be used as an AP Intel is not a very good choice. They have locked down the modules very hard in the firmware and so you won’t be able to use it in the 5 GHz band. The 2.4 GHz band works well.

I would recommend anything with an Atheros chipset. Those are however much more expensive than Intel.

Thank you Michael, I will look for one with an Atheros chipset.
