Wireless Access Point documentation should be updated as per Core Update 199

IPFire Core Update 199 introduced several new features to the Wireless Access Point package, however the documentation’s wireless settings section has not been updated yet. I do not have enough information to update it completely myself, I could only update some sections but not others, so I am just reporting this here. If instead I should go ahead and update the sections that I am able to please let me know.

My main doubts are for the fields “HT Caps”, “VHT Caps”, and “Loglevel (hostapd)”, which are not present anymore. I guess I should delete them, correct? Then I do not know if and how I should document the new field “Tx Power”, which on my system is set to “auto”.

Thanks for pointing this out. Updating the documentation after Core Update 199 is definitely important so users can properly understand the new Wireless Access Point features. Even partial updates would be helpful for the community, so contributing what you can while others fill in the remaining details could be a great step forward.

Please let me know if I should delete the “HT Caps” / “VHT Caps” / “Loglevel (hostapd)” fields, and update the others apart “TX Power”.

As those fields are no longer user selectable from the WUI, as they are automatically selected based on the capability of the wireless cards provided via iw, then I would say those sections should be removed.

Thanks @bonnietwin I just updated the documentation. However I do not understand the meaning of the phrase “The additional channels are available after saving the parameter setting once and editing the parameter again” regarding the “Country Code” setting, I left it there but I point out that maybe it should be better explained.

The Raspberry Pi 4b also supports 802.11ac with an 80MHz channel. I’ve added this to the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B documentation.

@bonnietwin among the CU201 release notes, for the Wireless Access Point add-on it is reported that “The description for the Neighbourhood Scan was previously inverted and has been corrected”. Please let me know if the Wireless Access Point documentation should be updated, or if the current note is already aligned to the CU201. Thanks

So just to rule out any misunderstanding, in order to comply to regulatory rules the “Disable Neighborhood Scan” check-mark should not be checked, correct?

Exactly. Neighborhood Scan is on by default. The check mark allows to disable it.
BTW: this was the behaviour since several CUs in the past. It isn’t worth to investigate this. The WUI page now reflects the reality.
