So I have just installed Transmission into my vm testbed running CU189 Testing.
I changed the default port value from 6969 to 6970 so it is the same port as you are using.
As the vm IPFire is running on my internal green network, I had to add a port forward into my production IPFire system.
As currently I also have a router/firewall from my ISP (working to remove it but not there yet) I also added a port forward into that router.
I then added a firewall rule on my vm IPFire the same as have used to send port 6970 traffic (TCP & UDP) to my vm IPFire system.
I then added a torrent from Arch Linux into my transmission system and it has successfully downloaded it into /var/transmission/downloads - 1.1G file.
So transmission downloading worked for me with Core Update 189.
So I can not reproduce the failure to download files with transmission.

In the wiki it has the firewall rule as destination “any”

It basically worked fine before the crash problem. Now the crash is resolved, but this is what came up.

It shows a lot of connections that are waiting.
When I start a download, and it is actively going, then there are a huge number of connections as the torrent is splitting the file into a huge number of small bits and the connections page then has a lot of ESTABLISHED for the connection status.
You have no ESTABLISHED status connections with your download locations but the connections page doesn’t give any clue as to why.
