Thank you, you saved my day

I installed IPCop in 2004 and then switched to Openbsd (which I had configured via ssh on a pcengines Alix at the time).
Today I needed a similar system but I saw that IPCop was no longer maintained. Remembering its lightness, simplicity and efficiency, I was sad.

So I followed the herd and tried the much-vaunted OPNsense, and what a horror it was to have to configure ethernet interfaces by pressing numbers, interfaces that were difficult to distinguish (short names) while my USB ethernet adapter disconnected and caused the system to bug.
Or seeing that the GUI wasn’t creating any output rules for a simple NAT after I’d clicked on auto-generate and that I couldn’t connect to the server because of a driver problem (unable to connect to it anymore).
After an hour of problems I then tried PFSense because I followed the herd not knowing where to go, I looked at what people were using because I don’t have the time to try to make it work and there was another problem:
I had to register with a service to find the image to unarchive… I didn’t even install it because I went back to look for something that could be close to the IPCop I remembered and I found you.

You clearly saved my day:
+It is installable via an iso, it’s simple using dd, it’s basic and it works as expected.
+It installs in 10 seconds on disk, it configures quickly, simply and with nice menus in 2 minutes, as expected.
+Everything works for now without bugs, as expected.
+The name of the interfaces is easily recognizable, as expected.
+There are fewer menus and options, so the interface is better because it is simpler and quicker to get a working system for home usage.

If I need a challenge I’ll try something else but for now I just need to work.

You are excellent, your work is masterful and I will make a donation to you. And on a regular basis if it remains stable.

Thank you Thank you Thank you !!!

Welcome to the community of IPFire users.
Thank you for showing your long way to IPFire.
I switched at the end of IPCop directly to IPFire. From time to time I looked at other systems, mainly OPNsense and PFSense, but didn’t find an easy solution like IPFire.
I’m sure, you will be satisfied with our open source project.
