SMB connection via IPFire (Green to Orange) only use one CPU core

Hi all

Super happy with IPFire and never experienced a problem so far but now I encountered a behaviour which I am not sure if it is normal:

I copied around 2000 photos from Green to Orange to my SMB share. The server hardware itself is not the bottleneck but I see that IPFire reaches exactly load average 1 which in my case with an apu board means only 1 of the 4 cores are used but this one core is fully utilized:

Did someone also notice this already and is it normal that IPFire is not able to utilize the other cores for this SMB connection?

My network is 1 Gbit/s throughout the transfer speed green to orange for the 2000 images was only around 4.5 MB/s (36 Mbit/s). Transfers in the same subnets I can utilize the full 1 Gbit/s.

Thanks in advance for any insight on this topic.

Best regards,
Silas

As an experiment. You can try starting multiple uploads at once.
From the link above may need additional ports open to negotiate multithread downloads

Thanks for the hint in the right direction. After some more research about SMB it is fact that it only supports single threaded connections with good reason. If I wish to make us of the 1 Gbit/s Network I should have a CPU that is capable of doing so with SMB and one core.

Maybe I should look into an upgrade next year

Thanks - thread can be closed if noone else wants to share their experiences with SMB

Best regards,
Silas
