Hi guys.
Setup here is an HP DL-360 with 4 nics running update 199
After the 199 update I added a new openvpn client to a Xubuntu Netbook .
Tried openvpn3-client - didnt work but lets park that for now.
So I updated repositories and added the legacy openvpn-client
Connected immediately, all routes pushed, default gateway redirected
all good!
So I tried to access a couple of services in orange.
everything worked bar one host which serves icecast2 and subsonic
I could ping it , but nothing responded at a port level?
went back onto blue with no vpn - subsonic worked , but icecast2 didnt.
I checked and icecast2 had fallen over. restarted and that was OK
But Subsonic still didnt respond?
TCPdumped tun0 - traffic flowing in
TCPdumped orange0 - no traffic coming out
the rules that govern this transaction were about position 5 out of 96 and have not been touched or even inspected in 2 years. It has just been working with no need to edit anything.
Yet today I checked them for good measure to find syn flood protection was back on??? turned it off and service working again! - no one else has the password for this firewall so I am at a loss as to how this happened ?
So just sharing in case someone else out there is scratching their head after an update, whilst looking at their system and thinking “this makes no sense!!” like I was!
