QEMU - SPICE error-link | VMM

Hello everyone,

I have the QEMU add-on enabled on my router (Core Update 202) and am running several VMs. Using a local Debian VM on my PC, I can manage the VMs via VMM (Virtual Machine Manager). However, I’ve recently been unable to launch the image viewer (the window for installing the OS, like VNC) and receive the following message.

According to the web, this must have something to do with SPICE, and this add-on is available on the ipfire in version 0.15.0-7.
Unfortunately, I’m stuck now, and maybe someone has an idea.

Thank you in advance for your support

Paul

Spice is now currently at 0.16.0 since May 2025 with 0.15.0 having been released in Apr 2021, 0.15.1 in Oct 2022 and 0.15.2 in May 2023.

So it looks like qemu can build successfully with older versions of spice but not run with them.

It looks like no one has tested out the qemu updates in testing or release as the last qemu update was done in Sep 2025.

I will look at doing an update of spice to 0.16.0 and also update the spice-protocol package which also has a newer version.

Also qemu itself looks to need to be updated as it now is at version 11.0.1.

If the update patch submission gets into CU203 Testing it would be good if you can do a test of it to confirm that it is working.

I don’t use qemu in IPFire and so can only build it and not test it.
