UDP - recursor mode
TCP - with external dns resolvers
TLS - with external dns resolvers

TCP - recursor mode it’s possible?

Looked at the Wiki for an explanation of these forms of consultation.
Which mode do they recommend?

In theory yes, but I wouldn’t rely on it in practise. For recursor mode you should use UDP.
