Hi! DOES THE HOST HARDWARE MANUFACTURER PROVIDE ipFire CUSTOMIZATION SERVICES OR ARE THERE HIGHLY CREDIBLE INDEPENDENT PROFESSIONALS ON THIS SITE WHO PROVIDE SUCH SERVICES ON BID OR HOURLY?
I am interested in using ipfire as a rigorous firewall to a corporate LAN server (of Linux and older Windows machines). I want to tightly control both outgoing (time+machine+ipaddress) internet and, especially, incoming internet – specifically I want myself to have remote, tightly controlled access, probably incrypted and tied to a few specific incoming ipaddresses (think teamviewer, ideally), and make it pretty near impossible for anyone to hack their way in without sounding an alarm.. I want to be able to access the databases etc. from wherever I travel, but otherwise I want outside access very tightly restricted.
I have limited linux experience (but used to use unix ages ago), I know almost nothing about networking, and I have looked briefly at the “getting started” documentation.
I don’t want the project of trying to DMZ my business computers while “learning” technicals of ipfire and associated software.
FWIW, I think the ipFire developers/maintainers are missing a big opportunity by not prominently marketing their CONFIGURATION and, maybe, maintenance services? I think that is both lost business – and lost adoption of ipFire, longer term. Every small business, and probably most households, could benefit from ipFire. But relatively few people, other than hobbists and engineers, are likely to adopt it – especially for business – without outside consulting.
So hopefully this is an acceptable topic and will garner some discussion? I understand there is a hardware sale going on through the end of the month…and Windows 10 is losing “support” (that’s what they call it) soon thereafter. And Linux desktop adoption apparently just blew through 6%!
Internet is currently provided by Comcast. The old firewall router was commercial, lacked updates, and finally croaked.
