I started the update from Core 156 to Core 157 on one of my remote IPFires using an APU1D hardware. (I had connection through an OpenVPN tunnel through the Internet.) While updating and before reboot, I lost the connection to the WebGUI: I got the error message “internal server error”.
Therefore I tried to connect via SSH, which worked. I just initiated a reboot, which worked as well.
Following the reboot, I could not reestablish an OpenVPN tunnel anymore. I had lost complete control from remote. Therefore I decided to rush to the place and check locally.
I found the IPFire up and running with established PPPoE (VDSL), Internet access on Green was possible. An OpenVPN Net2Net tunnel to another IPFire (Core 157) was working fine as well. So from user perspective, everything should work normally.
However I still did not have any access to the WebGUI. I got the error message "Fehler: Gesicherte Verbindung fehlgeschlagen. Beim Verbinden von ipfire:444 trat ein Fehler auf. PR_END_OF_FILE_ERROR ". Login through SSH worked again, I rebooted once more, no change. Since users can work, I left the installation in order analyse thoroughly, what is going on.
Using the OpenVPN Net2Net tunnel from another IPFire, I am able to reach the faulty IPFire through SSH. When logging on, I got the error message “The authenticity of host <faulty IPFire’s IP address>:222 can’t be established. The ED25519 key fingerprint is .” Confirming to proceed, I successfully logged in.
I inspected /var/log/pakfire/update-core-upgrade-157.log , but I did not see anything unusual.
Where should I continue to analyse the issue?
