MAC Address Change no DHCP (solved)

I need to change the mac address of red to the mac address of router I am replacing on new provider.

The cable modem that I currently have is happy with whatever interface is connected to it.

The new fiber ONT needs the mac address of the router that is provided.

In preparation for swapping I changed the mac on ipfire and tried to reconnect with the cable modem to verify the change works.

Reconnecting and rebooting both cable modem and router did not reestablish the red connection.

After deleting the spoof mac address the connection came back.

Any ideas why the spoof mac address would fail?

If the two isps are connected to the same upstream and the fiber is using mac binding it will fail if the device is not connected to the fiber net.

I have not made an attempt to connect to the fiber, yet.
I simply changed the mac address on the ipfire to see if it would work with the cable modem. It does not.

When I ssh into ipfire it shows the new address and the permanent address, but it does not get a dhcp address from the modem.

Skipped testing and tried connecting with spoofed mac to the ONT. It seems to work.

What it is the cable isp and the fiber isp is using the same public ip broker, since one system is using mac bindings the broker is not going to hand an ip address through the cable isp because its mac address is reserved for the fiber isp.

OK! That makes sense! I guess I am good to go then.
