With the current amount of port scanning that I block over my 5 IP addresses, my messages log file currently gets to about 100 Mb before it is rotated and compressed to about a more acceptable
~ 6 Mb.
From my records, over the last 15 years, the number of blocked packets has increased dramatically by more than 100 times to that when I suspect a weekly logrotation was programmed.
I can obviously change the weekly logrotation to a daily one on my firewall, but perhaps we can consider introducing a daily logrotation by default.
