LG TVs and the IPFire Smart TV list

Hi all.

LG TVs have been in the news for aggressive ads, telemetry, and even mapping other devices on your network!

IPFire’s DNS Firewall has a Smart TV list for this. DNS blocking will not stop local scans or anything stored on the TV, but it can stop a lot of the servers they talk to, without blocking OTA updates or the usual streaming apps.

If you run IPFire, enable the DNS Firewall and the Smart TV category.

One list will not make a TV private. It does cut a lot of the obvious phone-home connections. If you find more tracking hosts that are not updates, please report them.

Update.

I have found about 35 additional domains potentially related to this LG TV news which I’ve submitted to IPFire DBL’s Smart TV blocklist.

Please report any false positives if you encounter them.
