Since past many days I am unable to access ipfire.org and all the related domains (including this community forum) from various Indian ISPs that I tried.
I can ping ipfire.org’s IP — the DNS resolution of the ipfire domains returns expected response, I even see SSL handshake but everything after that results in a TCP timeout.
This is so unlike ISP enforced bans that I have seen in the past (Indian ISPs either hijack DNS record or do an SNI based blocking).
Is there a possibility a misconfiguration at IPFire’s infrastructure level is causing blanket ban of Indian IPs ? An example IP address is 106.222.235.201.
This is not due a misconfiguration, but deliberate. A couple of weeks ago, we received a very sustained DoS on our infrastructure which originated from a number of certain ISPs in India, and a couple of other places in the Middle East.
To protect our own infrastructure, we only had the option to block those entire ISPs.
I have now lifted the block and you should be able to access our infrastructure again.
I am glad this was not some kind of government enforced ban due to misinterpretation of this project, but unfortunate that it came under the radar of botnet attack
