Ipfire Connection to NordVPN via WireGuard / OpenVPN

Hello,

As a newbie, could someone please explain how I can import a NordVPN configuration via the WUI into iPfire for WireGuard?
The local subnets, in particular, are causing me some trouble.

Could someone also explain how to do the same thing via OpenVPN, if necessary? Unfortunately, the iPfire documentation doesn’t provide much guidance on these points.
To make it easier to understand, feel free to reply in German.

Have you read the IPFire Wiki page on WireGuard below?

Regards

P.S.

nordvpn doesnt hand out plain wireguard config files, so theres nothing for the wui to import. you have to grab the wireguard credentials (private key and a server endpoint) from the manual setup section of your nordvpn account page and enter them into the wireguard client fields in ipfire by hand. for the local subnet trouble, check allowed ips first: with 0.0.0.0/0 everything goes through the tunnel, so narrow it down to the subnets you actually want routed or keep your lan routed locally. openvpn to nordvpn works the same way conceptually, except youd configure it from the command line since the wui doesnt do client configs for outside providers.

that’s not correct i think. But thank you, for the idea doing it by hand. That’s what i want to do only in the wurst case.

same on core 203

This indicates that you are not looking at doing a net to net tunnel between two servers you run that are both running wireguard. You are looking to make a client connection from your IPFire to a NordVPN company.

Client VPN connections (WireGuard and OpenVPN) are not supported by IPFire via its WUI interface. See this section of a blog post for background.

sad. I’d like to bypass the poor peering between Telekom and Microsoft—which apparently works with NordVPN—but in my setup, that only works if I could use iFire to set up a tunnel for all the networks behind it.

To make IPFire act as a client to a VPN Provider you would have to do it via the command line.

NordVPN apparently have an instruction set for how to connect your IPFire system to their VPN server system but that is at your own risk to follow and no guarantee that a Core Update might not overwrite some setting they are using.
