Installation fails - The system could not be installed

Hi, new here :slightly_smiling_face: , and trying to install IPFire on a cwwk N100 rack PC.

Installing from an USB-stick, tried (with rufus) in iso- and dd-mode. The installation goes until chosing ext4-filesystem, then I see the progress, and then the error message (in german: das system konnte nicht installiert werden).

I suppose that for the first installation (from the stick), I don’t have to have access to the WAN? I just want to install from the stick, and than do the rest of the installation together with a friend who knows other systems like sophos or watchguard, as I until now had a Fritzbox, and just would like to replace it.

To exclude basic hardware errors, I installed Debian Trixie and Ubuntu, and it finished without problems.

Thank you,

Perhaps your ISO is corrupted; have you checked the SHA signature?

With Rufus, the correct writing method is DD.

I would agree with @pscar13 on there being a question mark about the iso.

That error message is created when the extraction of the files from the iso fails for some reason.

I always check the sha hash for the downloaded file to ensure that no download error occurred.

Also the iso file sizes are such that it can take a while for the download to complete. If you start trying to do anything with the iso then the download might terminate before completing.

Thank you :slightly_smiling_face:

The SHA-256 checksum was correct, but after rewriting the iso to another usb-stick, the installation passed.

There will be a lot to learn untill everything works as expected, but that’s the way to go. (And Docker is not as easy as youtube suggests :innocent:)
