is there a way to block ransomware and phishing site using ipfire, what are your work around configurations? besides URL filter is there another?

No, not really.

It might be a good policy for you to block all traffic and only allow some things that you know you need.

That however is not very practical with loads of clients who browse the Internet.

The web proxy is brilliant at doing this.

First line of defense from ransomware is the user.
Second line is the antivirus.
