Hi! New to IPFire. Looking for info on installing!

Hi all!

I recently discovered IPFire while looking for PFSense and OPNSense alternatives. I have a couple PCEngines ALIX boards and a Fortinet FG-60E box. Is it possible to install and/or does anyone have experience installing IPFire on either of these platforms. I do realize that at this point, the ALIX boards are really old.

Hi @iamk3

Welcome to the IPFire Community.

I am not familiar with the Fortinet but I have used the Alix2D3 with IPFire many years ago. So it does work, although you have to use the flash image as mentioned in
https://wiki.ipfire.org/installation/step2

As you mention, they are quite old and they are 32 bit and that architecture has been moved to the legacy section of the IPFire download page.
At the end of last year IPFire 32 bit EOL was announced for 31st Dec 2021.

So you can use them in the short term but start planning for replacement unless the Fortinet is 64 bit and is able to work with IPFire.

Thank you for your response. I will have to give the flash option a try if I can locate a CF card reader these days. haha… I am hoping that I will be able to load the software to the Fortigate.
