DROP_INPUT for SMTP

hello,

I have a proxmox mailgateway in ORANGE and created a rule to forward SMTP from RED to ORANGE like this

As I understood this rule:

from RED to HOST “mailgateway” allow predefined Protocol SMTP.

But there are no emails comming to mailgateway and in the Firewall-log (is this the right one?) I only see

I tried to send me a mail from GMX.

I do not understand why the firewall drops the traffic

Best Regards

Did you enable NAT in the rule?

Is 80.109.166.130 your external (fixed) IP Address and the mail gateway is running on the orange interface of your IPFire? You have to assign a port to the mail gateway behind the IPFire that the service is listening on (port forwarding). I would use another secure port rather than 25 (SMTP) e.g. 465 (TLS). If you have a router in front of your IPFire you need a port forwarding there as well. The mail gateway must be reachable from the internet otherwise it cannot accept incoming mails. GMX sends the mail to 80.109.166.130 (mail.***.com) on port 465 or whatever the sender set up in his mail client, router sends the packets to IPFire, IPFire to orange (the mail server), mail server accepts the mail (or not) depending on the mailboxes on that server. From your internal mail server the clients pull their mails? Let me allow one more question: Do you want to install this for a homelab?

Hello everyone,

thanks for your support - I brought it up’n’running
