Community Forum Update — New Categories & Fresh Colours!

We’ve been spring cleaning things around here! Here’s what’s new:

We’ve been rethinking the forum and added several new categories to better organise discussions:

  • NTP, DHCP, VLANs & Bridging, and ISP Trouble under Network
  • Virtualised & In The Cloud under First Install & Running IPFire
  • IPFire As Hypervisor under Add-Ons for those running VMs on an IPFire platform
  • The Documentation now has it’s own category
  • Additionally we’ve made a new Category IPFire Projects for our other projects. Those include the newly released IPFire DBL and IPFire Location!

To make the most of these changes — please select a category every time you post! It helps the right people find your question faster and means you’ll get a better answer sooner. It only takes a second and makes a huge difference for everyone. If you feel unsure, remember that there’s a descrpition post in every category!

Every category now has it’s own new colour palette too - easier to navigate at a glance.

Thanks for being part of this community — happy posting!

Great. Is there a category for testing releases?

Edit: there is Testing - IPFire Community

The community has been asking for a testing area for a while now. Hopefully it will see a lot of use and we’ll have no more bugs!

Yes I’ve been one of them. Hopefully there will be a mailing list for testing as well.

Yes, me too.

A testing list probably isn’t necessary because anything noteworthy will likely just go to the dev list or bugzilla anyway.

I don’t really know very well how Discourse works but I can see a small PLUS sign down to the left and the ability to create new sections in the forum

I do not think I should be able to do that ?

Hi, those should be user-specific. You are able to create quick links with different icons (e.g. to other IPFire Websites) there.

ok…

How about adding links to the IPFire main site, Blog and Wiki somewhere on top of the forums…
and the bug tracker at Bugzilla for that matter, and mailing list if relevant..

Those can be added with the Add custom section in the left sidebar.

TBH I think it is the Admins job to globally add those links if possible.
