I get that not all of the packages out there in linux land are available for ipfire. Would it be advisable to cause issues with later software upgrades if I build software from source on IPFire or does IPFire even have cmake and so fourth on it?

thanks I’ll look into that. This seems to be a thing tor project wants to do and I don’t mind pitching in for this.
