Like any network device, take a back up before applying an update and be very familiar with how to restore that back up quickly before applying the update. Practice this during downtimes, and preferably apply the update during downtimes, being ready to roll back if something does go wrong. This practice should be followed for any firewall brand when applying updates.
Personally, I use ipfire for two reasons: familiarity and compatibility. Iâve been using it for years when I started with a Raspberry Pi 1B. Still using it now because Linux has better driver support than BSD. When I got my latest router a couple years ago, I couldnât even use opnsense on it due to a lack of NIC drivers. The only major failures Iâve had are due to problems with installing updates - I had to reinstall once when a failed update left it unbootable.
i already test OPNSense,PFSense, Mikrotik and Next Generation Firewall ( Fortinet ) ⌠but ipfire more stable for my game server
I disagree with your understanding of a âproductâ. Something that has been produced is a âproductâ whether its is for sale or not.
I see your point and as meaning youâre indeed correct. Also⌠the output of a multiplication is a product too. However⌠itâs not a point about various meaning of the term.
According to Cambridge Dictionary, a definition of product is
something that is made to be sold, usually something that is produced by an industrial process or, less commonly, something that is grown or obtained through farming
Software (computer program) is not considered a good, however software is sold.
I feel not uncorrect on my definition stillâŚ
That âbrokenâ DNS message makes me to be so mad at every restart. I even skip versions update because of that. Every other solution works like a charm at restart, connecting flawless with ISP but IPFire nooo. It must stuck at every God damn restart 5-10 minutes to click on every dns configuration. With UDP, with, tcp, with google dns, with cloudflare, nothing works⌠And after I become red of madness, starts working.
This a bit OT.
Please open a new thread, if your DNS problems persist.
Or directly move on to https://bugzilla.ipfire.org and report it there.
If itâs a persistent problem, the core devs will take a look at it to make you less angry
