APCUPSD shows faulty status

The status page shows faulty entries. The UPS is 10 months old and unplugging it let it run on battery power as expected. Non of the status changes is reported by the addon.

I don’t know the date when the addon stopped working properly but it worked fine at installation last winter and in April this year during a power outage.

Maybe it corresponds with a very similiar problem stated here

Has anyone encountered similar faulty readings?

No. I have two UPS systems and both are working fine. One is around 5 years old and the other around 3.5 years old. I just checked the status output for both systems.

I suspect your UPS has a problem with some part of the electronics.

It won’t be a problem with the apcupsd addon software in IPFire as that has not been changed since the last update release in 2016.

That one still is showing the LOADPCT, BCHARGE & TIMELEFT numbers while on your system they are all shown as zero, so I am not sure it is covering the same issue. I don’t have the time to translate that forum post and read it in detail, so I just did a quick scan through and the status output did not look the same as you have shown.

With it saying NOBATT I would also try out taking the battery pack out of the UPS and check that the connectors to the battery are in clean condition and having a good grip on the battery terminals.

EDIT::

I translated the link you provided and it is saying that their problem is related to kernel version 7.0.2 and that kernel 6.x.x is working fine.

IPFire CU203 is running with kernel 6.18.32 so that based on the proxmox forum should be fine.

My two UPS systems have one running on IPFire, so kernel-6.18.32 and the other on An Arch Linux server with kernel-7.2.6 and both are working fine with no problems on the status reports.

The link also said that they ran the same UPS on another system (Linux Mint) and it worked fine.
Have you tried that approach. If it works fine on another PC system then maybe ther is some usb driver issue on the Linux 6.18.32 kernel version for the specific UPS system you have the APC Back-UPS BE850.

My systems are

APC Back-UPS RS 1000
APC Back-UPS CS 500

Maybe the USB driver is different for your system than for my two systems.

CU204 has kernel 6.18.38 so it might be worth trying to run What will shortly become the CU204 Testing release by changing the repo on your Pakfire from Stable to Testing and running an update and seeing if your apc UPS then behaves or not.

You could also try doing a fresh install of CU202 or CU201 and seeing if it works properly then. If it does then that woulod indicate some kernel driver issue for your specific APC UPS. If it still shows the same problem then it is likely a hardware issue with your UPS.

Thank you for the hints.

I tried apcupsd in LinuxMint and almost everthing shows up right in the status page. The only thing which is still somewhat odd, is that the battery date field shows 2001.

Tomorrow I am going to re-install IPFire and hopefully it will work again.
